Local grass root folk band “MiniNoise” has recently released their debut “So Nice”, including songs that
has been sung on many street rallies. With the rustic but touching sound, they turned their fury and bitterness
        in life into beauty.

MiniNoise writes almost everything; the wishes from the children in temporary housing area and people in
public housing estates; the remembrance of retired worker; bits and pieces quoted from a sex worker's
diary. MiniNoise also feels the tearing heart of families of the workers who died in the construction sites and the
heat suspended twenty years ago in Tiananmen Square -- these are the songs of the dissidents.

        <MiniNoise> includes:
        B (vocal, guitar)
Chan Wai Fat (bass guitar, guitar, background vocal)
        Lau Tze Bun (accordion)
        Yank Wang (ukulele, guitar)
        Edmund Leung (drums)

May - Karissa Muse & Friends

        (this show start at 10pm)

After giving a jazz guitar/piano duo performance in October 2008, jazz guitarist Karissa Muse will bring a quartet
of piano, guitar, bass and drums to Kubrick on the last Friday of May 2009.  The group will play both classic jazz
standards and contemporary jazz compositions.  Don’t miss the show if you want to hear swinging,
        upbeat jazz and romantic ballads.

Bassist Tony Carpio Jr., in addition to being an excellent jazz player, is a seasoned professional who has
recorded for and played with many local singers for years. Pianist Paul Chan used to play and program
electronic music.  He had performed a series of "acoustic x electronic" live music performances in Hong Kong
and Guangzhou, after which his preference on music was greatly diverted.  He is deeply touched by the
improvising elements and has been exploring his journey on jazz since then.  Rounding up the group,
drummer Samuel Lam is one of the up and coming local jazz drummers.

June - Chan Ning & Ah P

Exercise of Still Life

        音樂:阿p (my little airport)

It rains in June, it is very hot in July. Then, the quietness of August. And then, the exercises of style.

Hong Kong writer Chan Ning pays tribute to French writer Raymond Queneau in her latest work " Les Exercises
de style". Mr Queneau reflected on the variations of music after a Bach's fugue concert, which he later put into
experiment in his own narration of a simple daily life story: one story in 99 different exercises of style. Chan
Ning repeats the same sense of experimental spirit in her own writings in which she tries to tell trivial but
significant stories in different possible ways. This time she works with the member of Hong Kong indie band My
Little Airport Ah-P to bring forth the "music of writing". With his poetic music, Ah-P exposes the unspoken
underlying rhythm and variations within written and spoken words. This is an experimental cross-over between
music and literature, a multi-media exercise to expand the space and extent of these two-way expression
and creation. Being present at the moment of exercise is the best way to experience the real spirit of "exercise
        of style".

June - SSonia

        《The Artist’ Way》及《The Right to Write》給所有有抱負和想衝破圍牆, 活在當下的朋友。

SSonia loves music. Her early influences were Sally Yeh, West End musicals and Disney cartoons. At around 14
years old, SSonia discovered Björk and was totally blown away. At this point, she decided that she wanted to
        become a singer-songwriter.

Since then, SSonia became drawn to music by British artists and other prominent female singer-songwriters.
These days, she cites Cheer Chen, Craig Armstrong, Eva Cassidy, HOCC, Singh Kaur and Tori Amos as her
        primary role models.

SSonia knows that her role is to channel, and not to force new music to come. However, she is still learning how
to trust the process and not give in to feelings of insecurity. She highly recommends Julia Cameron's
books, especially “The Artist’s Way” and “The Right to Write”, to all aspiring artists and anyone else
who wishes to tear down the walls of their fears and be truly alive.

March 三月 - Wilson Tsang

        Wilson Tsang
--John ZornTom Waits
        In Traffic”
Little Cold Red”

Wilson first learned music in his early childhood from his mother. Influence started from early 80's pop sound
including rock, electronic and Jazz. Later by chance he was exposed to the more alternative world of music
including John Zorn, Tom Waits as well as the disbanded local group The Box, that opened up his ear to a
greater music language. For the last 10 years he had been more inclined in exploring sound for media such as
theatres and video art until early 2003, with the help of a friend, he released his first solo CD "Stuck in
Traffic" and since then he became more focused on making songs and music that he could "play on stage". The
2nd album "Little Cold Red", released with Harbour Records, was a more in-depth collection of such effort.
Disregard of his usual music style, with written songs as the main; “Whale Song”, his 3rd album is a simple
account and exploration to the sound and music itself.
