人生有起有跌，悲喜有時, 聚散有時，有時Up,，也有時會好Down。 世事無常，唯有及時作樂。 是故喜歡爵士樂的5人走在一起， 即興作樂，從Funk到Swing ，從Pop到Bossa，奏奏大師的作品，也玩玩流行的小品。既為娛人，也為娛己，此為一家便宜兩家著也。 Up n Down Quintet成立於2006年，成員包括: 鼓手Patrick. 鐽琴手 Veron, 薩克風手 Bon, 結他手 Paul 與及 貝司手 Dereck。

　　"Life is like a beautiful music piece which is full of ups and downs. Sometimes we swing when we're winning. Sometimes we mourn for the stormy weather. It's those ups and downs that fill our lives with colors. It is so amazing that we want to paint it with our melody and rhythm, from the color of funk and swing, to the color of pop and bossa. That's how the fellows of Up n Down Quintet gets together. The Quintet now composes of drummer Patrick, pianist Veron, saxophonist Bon, guitarist Paul and bassist Dereck."

1/ Why are you interested in jazz music and when ?

Patrick: Once a lecturer bring in class with a CD. She asked us to close our eyes, and listen. “I love you porgy…….” While none of us knew who was singing, everyone was reveling in the music. We, as teenage boys, started to imagine the face of the owner of this beautiful voice. I have to admit luckily our lecturer did not let us look at the CD cover. Cos she was Ella Fitzgerald at the end….…(laugh). Anyway, this song takes me in….
Bon: It was about Gershwin for me as well. Way back to my University life, when I was preparing for my exam and getting bored. I listen to the “Best of George Gershwin” album. After listening to songs like “I got rhythm”, “Someone to watch over me”, I immediately knew that jazz music is my cup of tea.
Paul: We’ve strolled around between several kind of music style including Pop, Rock, Funk, Blues..etc… , and finally I’ve found jazz and as my life goal cuz’ I can found the richest combination in both harmonization and melodic approach in jazz music structure.

2/ How do you all learn jazz music and difficulties need to overcome..

Theory are the first problem to solve, and the translate our emotions from heart to fingers… There’s always elements in jazz music that makes us feel both confused and inspired, and yet it takes time to understand. But we trumpet the genius of Miles Davis when he said "Do not fear mistakes, there are none.". The most difficult thing is about our attitude. It was not about playing a perfect piece. It never is.

3/ What are the difficulties of being jazz musicians in Hong Kong? The environment, educatiion, resources, support, audience etc...

There's always a saying that, "Music is only a business in Hong Kong". When most Hong Kong people are incepted with all the commercial music from TV and radio, it is not easy to be aware of a group of musicians who play jazz. There are always more alternatives in life than we could think of, and yet we may not aware of them. Jazz musicians are adventurers who try to show us all how life can be in such a different way. It would take time to let such a seed grow in a society, but I am optimistic that more people would join the adventure with jazz musicians, when they knows more about life sooner or later.

4/ Your favorite jazz muscians and jazz works...

Paul : Joe Pass, George Benson, Bireli Lagrene are my all time favorite guitarists, and I love their works as well. Bon: George Gershwin, Oscar Peterson, Joshua Redman, Cannonball Adderley and Paquito D'Rivera. Favorite albums: Oscar Peterson's "Saturday Night at the Blue Note", Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago, Paquito D'Rivera's "Reunion"

Patrick: Progy and Bess, Ella and Louis, Chet Baker is my all time favorite. Jeff Hamilton and his pair of brushes, Buddy Rich’s stroke of course, Gene Krupa’s Sing Sing Sing…

5/ What are you going to play in coming concert? Standards, lots of inspired notes and pop songs may be.

淳樸南方風

記得從前上小學的時候，老師教我們量詞，樹是一「棵」的、車是一「輛」的、書是一「本」的，而人是一「個」的。但五條人告訴我們，人可以是一「條」的。而且，他們還告訴我們，「五條人」也可以是兩個人。

阿茂和仁科來自廣東的小縣城海豐，兩個兒時玩伴組成了樂隊「五條人」。他們喜歡彈著吉他和手風琴，以自己的海豐母語唱民謠。阿茂說：「說話也好，唱歌也好，用其他地方語言總是感覺別別扭扭，用與生俱來的母語唱歌就最直接自然了。」

難道不怕其他人聽不懂嗎？他們就是不怕。阿茂說：「喜歡的一定會喜歡。」說的時候語氣堅定，充滿自信。

也對，音樂本身就是一種語言，聽不懂歌詞，反而讓人更加專心細味每一個音符。五條人的音樂充滿南方風情，唱的都是家鄉的生活瑣事。終日無所事事的道山口靚仔、田間抽煙的李阿伯、製蚊香的夢想化工廠、沉默不言的單身漢阿炳耀，都是他們的歌曲題材。阿茂演唱時的賣力忘我，伴上仁科一手悅耳的手風琴，彷如令人置身於逍遙自在、無拘無束的鄉間裡。

雖然五條人的音樂充滿鄉土風情，但有趣的是，他們從小就受到香港的文化影響：看的是港產片，聽的音樂是王菲，梳的髮型是「郭富城頭」。阿茂用半鹹半淡的廣東話說：「我們都會說白話。」首次來港的目的是因為演出，他們感到很榮幸，也很感動。

除了在香港演出，五條人亦曾把他們的海豐話民謠帶到北京、深圳等多個國內的城市。阿茂說，內地的獨立樂隊活躍，而且漸漸喜好民謠，所以大家對五條人的反應也相當不俗。

問他們可有發展大計？阿茂即時皺起眉頭，表示一想起就覺得很累，也不去想太多。他們只想唱歌，沒有多餘的野心。這正正與五條人的音樂風格不謀而合。

吳卓玲的樂與路

導演張婉婷在2001年拍攝了電影《北京樂與路》，故事發生在古老傳統的北京。內容講述一班住在「樹村」的現代青年，以音樂表達自己的情感，追求自己的理想。

「樹村」是一個老胡同區，亦是內地有名的搖滾村。不少對音樂狂熱的年青人都會聚居在該處，不分晝夜的玩音樂。那時侯，吳卓玲就住在那裡。

吳卓玲在大學時才開始接觸音樂，與同學一起自學結他。由參加結他學會，到與朋友組樂隊的兩三年間，她發覺音樂是一件很有意思的事情，而且可以越玩越大。畢業後的她，毅然辭去了一份很好的工作，隻身從家鄉成都走到北京這個大城市，追尋自己的夢想。她帶點靦腆說：「那時候年青有夢想，甚麼也不怕。」

住在「樹村」的時候，周邊都是樂手，很容易便找到可以合作的伙伴。吳卓玲笑說：「在那邊不組樂隊就不正常。」2001年，她在北京組成了「星期三旅行」樂隊（Wednesday’s Trip），任主唱兼吉他手。後來樂隊簽約摩登天空唱片旗下的Badhead廠牌，更於2005年發行專輯《Secret Mission》。

當時樂隊正紅，發展不俗，吳卓玲卻漸漸受不了北京的生活。無論是食物、天氣，或是壓力，都令她好不習慣。她覺得自己有需要休息，需要急速逃離這個大都市。於是，樂隊解散了，吳卓玲遷居到西藏。

西藏的生活優閒寫意，她四處遊歷，同時寫下了不少作品。在不同的城市，有不同的感受，也做出不同的音樂。

吳卓玲說，她的音樂不斷在變。大學時是反叛的「龐客」（punk），音樂比較噪動；到了北京，發現這樣的音樂不太適合自己，便轉玩曲風神秘迷幻的trip-hop；在西藏遊歷時，玩的則是閒散、充滿田園感覺的音樂。現在回到家鄉成都，回歸大城市後，又玩起現代感較重的音樂來。

她的曲風不斷在轉變，音樂題材卻大抵有了定案。到西藏前寫的歌曲多為虛構故事，與現實對照。到西藏以後的歌都以寫實為主，記錄著生活的變化。她說：「說穿了，就是講述自己的生活。可能太個人化、太私密，但這些事或許在別人身上發生過，也可能遇上過同樣的情緒。」

這是吳卓玲首次來到香港，她說這裡跟想像中的不太一樣。不知道她在香港會寫下怎樣的音樂？

Jackson Harrison 生於悉尼，四歲開始彈鋼琴。他先于悉尼音樂學院師從 Mike Nock，後赴紐約師從 Marc Copland。他首張三重奏大碟《Land Tides》最近由備受尊敬的瑞士 Hat Hut 唱片公司發行。他 2006 年榮獲澳大利亞全國爵士樂獎，目前住在悉尼。他擁有的智慧超越了他的年齡。他的音樂時而精緻、時而激烈、時而讓人捉摸不定。他的音樂顯得久經世故、繼承了過去的精華同時又是全新的。

2010年一月，傑克遜將帶著他的三重奏樂隊來到中國。他已經找到了與自己的音樂風格接近的合作夥伴 – 鼓手Chris Trzcinski 和貝司手Peter Scherr。Chris Trzcinski是一位元音樂品味廣泛、經驗豐富的鼓手及作曲家。他改編和表現具冒險色彩聲音的能力，使他成為上海音樂界最受歡迎和尊敬的鼓手。Peter Scherr是在香港生活將近20年的美國貝司手及作曲家，曾與眾多頂尖的創意音樂家同台演出，包括他的兄弟Tony Scherr、Jim Black、Jenny Schienman、Bruce Huron和Simon Barker等等。

Jackson Harrison was born in Sydney, and started playing the piano at the age of four. He studied with Mike Nock at the Sydney Conservatorium, and with Marc Copland in New York. Jackson’s debut trio record, Land Tides, was recently released on the respected Swiss label Hat Hut Records. He was the winner of the 2006 Australian National Jazz Award, and is currently based in Sydney. His talent transcends his age. His music sounds refined but intense, carries the essence of the past and at the same time, breeds the original. In January 2010, he will be performing in China in trio, the partners that understand his music style: Chris Trzcinski the drum player and Peter Scherr the bassist. Chris Trzcinski is a seasoned drummer and a composer with a diverse music understanding. His ability to rearrange and play the experimental sound makes him the most renowned and respected drummer. Peter Scherr is an American bassist and composer who lives in Hong Kong for around 20 years. He works with many top standing musicians like his brother Tony Scherr, Jim Black, Jenny Schienman, Bruce Huron and Simon Baker…

賈立怡， 香港唱作歌手。從小熱愛音樂，並接受傳統的鋼琴訓練。十五歲到英國留學，修讀古典音樂。十八歲簽約環球唱片當作曲人。2005年從幕後轉到台前，正式成為唱作人，推出專輯包括 “賈主義”, “感恩節” ,，“獨奏”和“聽聽。2009年成為獨立創作人，為香港獨立電影“明媚時光”配樂及發表全新單曲“Notes for Sun。

Rachel Kar, a singer-songwriter from Hong Kong. She began classical piano training at an early age and continued her musical training in United Kingdom at the age of 15. Rachel signed with Universal Publishing in Hong Kong as an exclusive songwriter when she was 18 and became a singer-songwriter in 2005. Her releases include “Rachelism”, “Thanxgiving” ,“Solo” and “Listen”. She became an independent artist in 2009 and participated in the film scoring of a Hong Kong independent movie called “Glamorous Youth”, and has recently released her newest single “Notes for Sun”.

5 February 2010 - Chochukmo

四人香港搖滾樂隊Chochukmo成員包括主音Jan Curious、結他及鍵盤手Mike Orange、結他手Les Hunter及鼓手Kitty Trouble。2005年夏天，各成員已為樂隊效力，不斷創造出自己的音樂；2008年春天至臻完美，四名成員以不同的領域的音樂興趣及見解，創造了屬於自己的音樂。Chochukmo旨在好玩，勇於將音樂推至極限，他們嘗試的音樂種類包括爵士、龐克、bossa nova及雷鬼等。他們熱情澎湃的現場表演及豐富的音樂元素在在吸引著觀眾。

2008年，Chochukmo成為Time Out Hong Kong選出的20強音樂人其中之一、時代雜誌評為近年南中國最有魅力的新樂隊、亦是CNNGo中Hong Kong Hot List:20 People to Watch裡的其中一人。

Chochukmo is a 4-piece indie rock band based in Hong Kong, China with Jan Curious on Vocal, Mike Orange on Guitar and Keyboard, Les Hunter on Guitar, and Kitty Trouble on Drums. The members of the band have started contributing their talents and innovations into their music since the summer of 2005, with the current inventive line-up coming into their own in the spring of 2008. With the chemistry triggered by different musical interests and thoughts, Chochukmo has been claimed to have created a unique style of their own. With the playful minds and the courage of pushing to limits, they experiment rock music with different elements from jazz to punk, from bossa nova to reggae. The band is known for their passionate and energetic live performance, and the richness in elements delivered in their music.

Chochukmo has been selected as the “Top 20 Hong Kong Musicians” by Time Out Hong Kong in 2008, has been described as “the most charismatic band to have emerged in southern China in recent years” by TIME Magazine, and has been included in “The Hong Kong Hot List: 20 people to watch” by CNNGo in 2009.

12 February 2010 - ISoFeel

ISoFeel一詞， 是代表著一種被世人隔離的感覺，亦同時表現「我這樣想，所以我這樣作」的意思。

ISoFeel在2008年已經開始創作和錄製歌曲，但正式的名稱則在2009年3月一次公開表演前才決定。我們的主要成員是Jimmy和Lolo，分別負責作曲和主唱。ISoFeel並沒有固定音樂類型，音樂類型會隨時間和專輯而不同，最主要是想表達內心感覺和情緒。

The word "ISoFeel" represents the feeling of being isolated by the world, and the "I write as I think" mentality.

Our core members are Jimmy (composer) and Lolo (vocals), and we have been writing and recording songs since 2008,　but the band's name was decided during a public performance in March this year. ISoFeel is not confined to any particular genre of music, and our style will change over time and vary from one album to another. Our aim is to show the audience how we feel.

再見•舊模樣 @ Arnold Fang 方欣浩 2009/09

那個曾經讓英女皇伊利沙白二世登岸香港的皇后碼頭，現在已經不見了；曾經鳥聲處處的雀仔街，抵不住時代變遷的洪流，被林林總總的商場名店取締了；曾經稱得上「美滿甲天下」的囍帖街，也快住滿了烏鴉。 

轉眼間，一切都煙消氣散。或許再多二十年、三十年，這些滿載著回憶的地方都會被換上冷冰冰的高樓大廈。還有誰會記起這些舊模樣？ 

獨立音樂人方欣浩(Arnold)離開香港工作三年，今次回來，發現許多熟悉的事物都不見了。「一會兒聽到不見了一個碼頭，一會兒聽到不見了一條街，不然就是塌了一棵樹；很多人做了很多東西，但也好像改變不了甚麼。」他在想，也許可以在音樂上盡一點力。事與物匆匆過去，Arnold決定用音樂記下生活，以一曲《舊模樣》記念逝去的前事。 

「仍是這海風，仍是那波濤，仍是你的祥和面相跟我在踏步。

  海邊景緻，無奈地急速轉變著形象，脫去當天舊模樣……」 

Arnold選擇以《舊模樣》為Kubrick Friday Live音樂會的主題，除了為緬懷過去外，也希望能夠像昔日一樣，以音樂與曾經合作過的好友重聚。大家闊別多時，他很珍惜這晚的重聚。因為音樂會過後，他將要到日本進修，隊員們各奔前程，也未知道哪天再有相聚的機會。 

雖然讀書進修佔了Arnold大部分的時間，但是他從沒有放下音樂。他說，表達自己的方法有很多，而音樂就是他的其中一種方式。這個動作就如人每天要吃飯一樣，一旦成了習慣，就一輩子才不會改變。 

縱使不斷遊走於異國，他的作品依然不絕。《太陽朝拜》就是他在瑞士雪山上，體驗自然環境的可貴後寫成的；《追憶的小鐵盒》是他在韓國吃過鐵製飯盒後的創作。《歡迎我嗎？》則是Arnold跨地域寫給正生書院的學生及職員的歌，為他們道出渴望被接納的心聲。身在異地多年的他，沒有忘記過香港這片土地。 

雖然不知道何時再見，但他相信，終有一天會以音樂重聚。
