Tino, where memories go?

For decades, the people of Hong Kong created an exceptionally quick rhythm of the city, only for fear of being marginalized, and fallen behind in various measures. They use today’s “real time talk of the town” to bury yesterday’s “real time”. As a result, each “real time talk of the town” have become a fault line deleted in the memory.

The author was born in the 60s and immigrated to Canada in the 90s. He returned to Hong Kong after 20 years to re-examine his native city. He saw a series of fault lines in history, culture and values. They are like “islands”appearing in the minds of Hong Kong people of different ages. There is a need for a bridge or a tunnel to link them up and exchange.

Taking the role of both as a journalist and an artist, the author organized an sustainable exhibition and publishing program. It is hoped that this book can play the role of a bridge or tunnel, and invite professionals from the art, pop music and communication media, also young students of different ages, in the form of interview dialogue, to look back at Hong Kong in an orderly manner from the 60s to the present day, and from the British colonial rule to the One Country Two System, all the way to the evolution of an unique culture.

At the same time, it tries to explore the changing value of several generations of Hong Kong people, and the phenomenon of “islands” in the memory fault line. It showcases the sense of crisis of the next generation, how they will be handled, awakened and faced.

The topics in the book, as Professor Clement So (蘇鑰機) of School of Journalism and Communication of Chinese University of Hong Kong pointed out in the preface: "Topics consist of art, current affairs, memories, migration, culture, etc. There are historical angles and comparative elements. He talks about Hong Kong and Canada, news and art, sense and sensibility."

Professionals interviewed in the book include Clement So (蘇鑰機), Joseph Tse (謝志峰) from communications sector; musician Dominic Chung (鍾肇峰), Tats Lau (劉以達) and Anthony Wong (黃耀明); art critic and curator Blues Wong (黃啟裕), photo artist and art educator Thomas Lin (練錦順), comic artist/writer Rainbow (李香蘭) etc.
